Y5 Poetry Day
Y5 Poetry Day
On Monday 17th of June, all of Year 5 will be taking part in a day dedicated to reading, listening to, writing and performing poetry. We will be doing lots of activities to widen our experiences of poetry and perhaps even change our ideas about what poetry is like.
In preparation for this we are asking you to find at least one example of a poem that you like and bring a paper copy into school on the day. Perhaps you even have some poets in the family and can bring in some poems that have been written by you or other family members. We will be using these poems in an activity at the start of our special day.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING A PAPER COPY OF
THE POEM (THAT CAN BE WRITTEN ON) ON
MONDAY 17th JUNE
In the last part of the day we will be holding an exciting Y5 ‘Poetry Slam’- a poetry performing competition. Each class will be learning and putting together a performance of a poem with the aim of outperforming the other classes!
Within the ‘Poetry Slam’, there will also be a section for individual performances. This is where you can perform a poem that you have chosen and rehearsed beforehand in your own time. Start choosing a poem and make your performance as engaging as possible. There will be prizes for the winning performers. To enter this section of the competition, please complete and return the slip below by Wednesday 12th June.
We can’t wait to see who will be declared class and individual champions!
