Y6HN & Y6SW Crucial Crew

10th December 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Y6 Visit to Crucial Crew and talks by Nigel Vardy

Year 6 will be visiting the Lifewise Centre in Rotherham for the day. This is for an initiative called ‘Crucial Crew’ which is run by the South Yorkshire Police and involves children taking part in scenarios designed to teach them about keeping safe.

Tuesday 5th January – Y6CP & Y6R/J

Wednesday 6th January – Y6HN & Y6S/W

The visit will take place during the normal school day; the bus will leave school at 8.30am prompt, please ensure that your child arrives at school for 8.15am ready for a speedy registration! The children will need to bring a packed lunch and should also wear sensible footwear and school uniform.

In addition to this, as part of our geography topic this term, we will be studying the mountain ranges of ‘The Americas.’ Following his successful visits over the last five years, we are delighted to welcome back Nigel Vardy aka Mr Frostbite – an experienced mountaineer who, in 1999, suffered severe frostbite on Mount McKinley in Alaska. His story is truly inspirational. He will be in school on Tuesday 23rd February. In addition to this, Nigel will also be giving a talk on George Mallory and Sandy Irvine, two explorers who disappeared while climbing Mount Everest in 1924. This talk is scheduled for Tuesday 9th February. Our literacy work next term will be based around their story. There will be a small charge per child for these talks.

To cover the costs for these activities, we are asking for a contribution per child. As with all activities of this kind, we can only ask for a voluntary contribution, but should insufficient funds be received, the events may have to be cancelled. Please make payments via Parent Pay.

The total cost for both the visit and the talks is £12.50.

Thank you,
