This week in year 5 we started our next Literacy unit. This is a 'Speaking and Listening' unit that develops the children's presentational skills and their ability to talk persuasively in front of an audience. All the children have been put into groups of 3 by their class teacher to design a new product that will appeal to other children their age. Their task is to persuade the Dragons (the year 5 teachers!) to pick their product as the winner in our Dragons' Den competition. This work has been linked with our ICT lessons where the children have been designing some questionnaires to enable them to do some market research on their products and present their findings using spreadsheets. Already, there is a real buzz in the air in each year 5 base as the children work on the advertising material for their product and begin to plan their presentations. Two groups from each class will go forward to the Year 5 Dragons' Den final in the last week of this term.
