Illustration week brings 'Roman Lydgate Studios'
Year 4 were very lucky to work with a real life illustrator this week. Janine Dearlove is a local artist who writes books for children. She worked with all of the classes this week and showed us some of her brilliant work.
She inspired us all to write our very own books based on a Roman theme. She gave us lots of tips and encouraged us to use our imaginations - there were no rules! She knew lots about the Romans and encouraged us to research and use what we knew in our books. We are still busy working on them but here are a few pages from Alex's (Y4JP)book. Isn't it brilliant?
We are thinking beyond our stories now and talking about using our central characters and putting them into a 3D scene in a shoebox. Watch this space!
Janine didn't only inspire us to be writers and illustrators, she also taught us a lot about the process of creating characters and writing books. We learnt about storyboarding, intellectual property, unique selling points, longevity, publishing rights and associated products. Thank you Janine - it's been a brilliant week.

School council speeches and votes
Last Friday, the whole school took part in the school council elections. Speeches were heard in the morning and we all had to vote in real ballot boxes in the afternoon. Y4JP had a difficult job as they had 10 candidates to choose from.
A huge thank you to everyone who made lots of effort and was brave enough to stand up and make a speech and a huge well done to Alex who was voted as our school council representative for the second year in a row (we were clearly impressed the job he did last year!) and also to Sophie, who will take on the role of vice rep.
Results of the Y4CW School Council Elections
Very well done to all the children that took part and made super presentations and posters. Out of the ten people that put themselves forward, Hannah was elected to be our class rep closely followed by Lucy who will act as our vice rep. Well done girls, we are sure you will do an amazing job.
Y4JP Roman homework
Mrs Purdom was so impressed with our Roman homework this week. The range of research was incredible: from housing to clothing to entertainment to armies - we even had a presentation about hairstyles! Here are just a few examples.
Well done to everyone for all your hard work - lots of new learning on show. Here it is on display in our classroom.
Children in Need 2019
Thank you to all our children and their families for supporting Children in Need today. We had a great day in school and raised lots of money as well. We will let you know when it's all been counted!
We all wore spotty or sporty (or both!) clothes and donated £1. We had a whole school assembly where we watched some films about where our money goes to and all the good causes it helps. Then we gathered on the playground for our annual whole school photo. We also swapped promise cards with friends in another class.
We had cake sales in every year group and we all had a go at the Joe Wickes Workout video too. If you want to have a go at home, you can find it here:

Great effort everyone - well done!
And finally a swimming reminder....
Please remember it is Y4CW and Y4JP starting their swimming blocks next week. Our first lesson is Thursday 21st November. Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to help.
