This week in Year 3, we have started reading some Greek myths. We read 'Theseus and the Minotaur' and had fun making freeze frame pictures of the main events in the story using facial expression to show how the characters were feeling.

We then retold the story whilst practising using adverbial phrases and different sentence openers.

Here are some extracts from our writing:

'Every year, seven unlucky boys and girls sailed to Crete to be eaten by a deadly Minotaur. Theseus looked out the window and ran outside. "What are you doing Theseus?" his father asked.' (George G)

'The terrified children were sent to a secure dungeon. Suddenly a girl appeared at the door. "I'm Ariadne," she explained. Without warning, she produced a large key and let Theseus out.' (Molly N)

'Theseus sort of regretted his decision but it was too late. All the children were scared so he tried to cheer them up.' (Oscar H)

'They crept through the hallway trying to mute their voices. When they reached the end of the maze, Ariadne gave Theseus a razor sharp sword that looked like it could instantly kill the Minotaur.' (Oscar M)

'With shaking hands, Ariadne handed him a razor-sharp sword and magical wool. He crept cautiously into the dark maze.' (Charlie H)

'Steadily, Theseus followed the string. He only had a fire torch but it lit about half a metre of darkness. After several hours, Theseus found the foul beast slobbering in the corner. Suddenly, the Minotaur turned around and roared. Theseus' heart missed a beat.' (Natalie D)

'After a while, Theseus saw the Minotaur and had never seen such a savage beast! He never knew how big and fierce it was. In the shadow of the torch, the Minotaur went closer to Theseus and growled.' (Diane L)

'As quick as a flash, the string rolled out and he soon found the Minotaur. With anger, Theseus swiped his sword at the beast.' (Isabel E)
