World Book Day

The children had an exciting and fun day for World Book Day last week. They enjoyed dressing up as book characters and taking part in a book treasure hunt all round the school.

In Year 3, we spent some time making cosy reading dens and enjoyed sharing our book recommendations. We read The Tunnel by Anthony Browne as a class and did drama activities to explore how the characters might have felt when they went through the tunnel. We then created our own imaginary worlds that we would like to find at the end of a tunnel.

All of the children have been given a £1 World Book Day voucher that they can use as part payment towards a new book, or exchange for one of the special World Book Day books that can be found in book shops. Rhyme and Reason bookshop will be visiting school towards the end of this month to set up a pop-up book stall, so the children could save their vouchers and spend them then.

All of this was designed to inspire the children to keep reading and we hope that they all went home feeling enthusiastic about the books that they have shared.
