Friday 9th July

Oh we do like to be beside the seaside!

This week, we were all very excited to go on our day trip to Scarborough. As you will have seen in our previous blogs, we have been working hard at school, learning all about this seaside town and comparing it to where we live. We knew lots about the town's history, the coastline and the castle before we went so it was good to be able to experience it in real life.

All our classes went to the castle and found out a bit more about its defensive features and how it had been changed over time. We learnt about different weapons and even sat on an imaginary toilet to have an imaginary sociable poo! When we were walking down from the castle, we got a really good view of The Grand Hotel. Ask us what we know about the rooms, the different floors, the towers and the chimneys. We also spotted where the coastline had been landscaped after Holbeck Hall hotel slid into the sea in 1993.

We visited Scarborough art gallery too. There was a lovely exhibition all about the seaside. We had a chance to look around all the exhibits but looked very carefully at a Victorian painting, called Courtship on the beach by Charles Wynne Nicholls. Ask us what the two children are doing. They are actually being a bit naughty! We found out about Victorian trinket boxes and had the chance to make our very own, covered in shells.

We couldn't go all the way to Scarborough and not go to the beach. We enjoyed playing in the sand and eating ice creams but the best bit was going in the sea. Some of us forgot we didn't have a change of clothes!

The sun shone for us and we had a super day - one we are sure to remember for a long time.
