Friday 10th September
Hello and a very warm welcome to Year 4 and our first blog of 2020-21!
We have had great fun this week while we have been learning and playing together. It's been a chance to get to know each other a little better and there have been lots of smiles along the way. Here's a taste of what we have been up to over the last few days.
4JP
We have enjoyed making self portraits for our class gallery. We looked closely at our faces and made careful pen drawings, observing every detail. We then used crayons to match the colour of our clothes, hair and skin. Then we worked with water-based pastels to create a bright, bold background. We are going to make special frames for them before they go on display in our classroom.
Here we all are. Do you recognise anyone?
4JD
We have had a great first week in 4JD and are settling well into lots of new routines. This week we particularly enjoyed our first cross curricular lesson.
We are learning about the Romans this term, but our first lesson was all about the Celts and understanding what is meant by the term 'history'. We created our own postcards of moments in history from both the BCE period and AD. You can see from the photographs, that we then hung them up on a washing line in the correct order.
Can you order them chronologically again?
4CW
We have had a lovely first week in 4CW and have learnt lots of new routines and also managed to go swimming! We have especially enjoyed our 'Figure Me Out' maths where we made our own calculations to illustrate shoe size, birthday months and numbers of people in our families. This was our very first piece of maths in Year 4
And finally.....
The thing we get asked for more than anything else is book recommendations. We do have a list of good reads for Year 4 which will be available during our parent drop-ins in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, you may find this helpful. It's a website designed for teachers but has a wealth of information about all sorts of different books including non-fiction, poetry and new titles as well as book reviews and recommendations.

As we say in Year 4, it's good to read, read, read, read and read!
