Science Week: Growth!
This week the whole school have been celebrating Science Week with a range of lessons linked to the theme of 'Growth'. In Y6, topics included creating our own Fibonacci spirals, smashing stereotypes by researching a range of lesser-known scientists' work, using Mr Men as a model for inheritance patterns, analysing optical illusions and building Gentoo penguin nests.
In the heat on Friday, 6RJ had fun getting out of the classroom and using only their 'beaks' to build a nest like a Gentoo penguin. We learnt how these ingenious birds are adapting to climate change by being able to build their nests in a range of environments using whatever materials are available. We tested how water and wind proof our nests were and are pleased to report that they all stayed firmly in place.
